NetGalley Review: Common Decency (Tom Allen)

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my first time reading a Tom Allen book, and I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of his bibliography. Having grown up in a small village, the close-knit community setting felt very familiar to me, as well as many of the characters. My favourite characters were:

  1. Miranda (what a legend)
  2. Fanny (a classic British trope, and I loved her evolution)
  3. The bee

I have mentioned Fanny specifically, but most of the residents have significant and heartwarming character development throughout the course of the story, as they come together in support of each other and larger causes such as saving their green space and oak tree.

I was torn between awarding three or four stars, but I had a genuinely great time reading this story. Tom really kept me engaged, and I somehow didn’t see the twist coming.

Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
